Todd Jones

“There have been a lot of great hockey players over the past 100 years, but no one has captured them better in print and photographs than Todd Jones in his book The History of Cambridge Hockey.

“Born in Galt in 1944, Jones has been an enthusiastic collector of hockey memorabilia since he first laced up a pair of skates to play with the other kids on a school rink. Due to his love of the game and the men and women who play, Jones was inspired to put together a book that reflects a local flavour of hockey personalities, many who became international stars.

“During the last half-century, Jones has played and coached minor hockey and personally knew many of the players who grace the pages of his exciting new book. In his younger days he was a pretty good fastball player. He discovered that hockey players were also good baseball players.

“Hockey players who once brought excitement to the ice surfaces in the old Galt, Preston and Hespeler rinks have put Cambridge on the map in the world of hockey. These greats include names such as Terry Sawchuck, Todd Harvey, Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Jim Schoenfeld and Vern Kaiser.

“The book includes pictures of the world’s greatest women’s hockey team that was known as the Preston Rivulettes. This team, led by the marvellous and talented Ranscombe sisters, Hilda and Nellie, amassed a record of 345 wins, three losses and two ties. Today’s National Hockey League coaches would sell their souls to obtain a record like the Rivulettes had recorded.

“This book will become an exciting hockey collector’s treasure that will grace the coffee tables of the nation. For the older generation it will bring back memories of greatness in our arenas of days gone by. The younger generation will marvel at hockey super stars who once played in local rinks just like them.

“It’s a book that will be in my collection. A fantastic job by Todd Jones.”
